Days spent spotting wild animals in awe-inspiring, remote landscapes. Dinner cooked on an open fire beneath the stars. Bedtime stories accompanied by lions roaring in the distance. On a family safari, everyday life takes an extraordinary turn.

Forget staring at screens all day, on safari, the kids will feel like they’ve stepped into a film set. Whether that’s running down huge dunes in Namibia, following the zebra migration in the Kalahari in Botswana, or watching elephants in Tanzania.

Adventures like this aren’t about spoiling children. They’re about broadening their horizons, with truly liberating experiences that give them plenty of chances to get their hands dirty. And for parents, there are few better ways to spend quality time together as a family. All in outstanding places far beyond the tourist trail.

Family Safaris Experiences:

How old do the kids have to be?

At Natural High, we’ve travelled with our own kids since they were tiny. But that doesn’t mean we take things lightly. We can advise on itineraries suitable for children of all ages – always with a keen eye for safety. You might also want to think about whether your kids are old enough to make the most of everything our adventures have to offer. Read more about this here.

Where will we stay?

It could be a simple lodge on Kenya’s remote Laikipia Plateau. Or a South African ranch where you’ll swap the safari jeep for horseback. If you want to truly get out into the wild, try one of our expeditionary safaris in Tanzania or Botswana and try a night of two sleeping beneath the stars. Or strike out into the Namibian desert with a private, mobile camp.

How structured are these safaris?

The beauty of these trips is it’s all up to you. If you want to spend a whole day tracking lions in the Serengeti, you could rise early, pack a picnic and set off with your guide. Or you could enjoy a relaxed start at camp followed by a leisurely game drive. The key is, you decide.

We can only travel in school holidays – any advice?

Our travel experts live and breathe Africa – and they’re full of suggestions for fantastic itineraries tailored to when and how long you can travel for. From elephant watching in the Southern Serengeti over Christmas, to epic summer holiday safaris in Zambia’s Luangwa Valley, these trips pair rich encounters with monster value.
