Munira Island Camp

There are places that claim to be 'Robinson Crusoe' but aren't really...and then there are those that couldn't be more so if they tried. Munira is owned and run by Mike Kennedy, who is someone that you will want to visit anyway, even if he didn't own a camp. Read more?

Endlessly amusing and inclined to start throwing plates at the roof (a party trick where the plates disappear into the 'makuti' thatch and have to be retrieved in the morning by the understanding staff), Mike is a very laid back and friendly host.

The camp is constructed of simple 'bandas' dotted around the island. Each has an en-suite shower (which works only when you lower your bucket, fill it up and pull it up by it's rope) and a separate 'long drop' toilet. Food is based around the catch of the day and served by a team of very cheerful, friendly staff from the local area. The camp is basic so you need to come expecting little by way of auxiliary luxuries, but it is a beautiful spot and there are activities on offer for those that want to explore further.
