Resembling something like a huge double bed on some sort of bizarre Flintstone wheelbarrow, which can be wheeled out into the open for a night of sleeping in the open air under the stars (safely shrouded in a big mosquito net). As an added bonus, the owners and indeed hosts of the starbeds are the local Maasai, who cook in a traditional kitchen, barbecue style, as partners in a joint venture with Loisaba.
You can reach the star-beds either on foot, horseback, camel or vehicle and can combine your stay with the other set of starbeds, Kiboko, or the main Loisaba Lodge (30 minutes drive away) or one of the other lodges in the area like Sabuk or Ol Malo.
