Created in 1972 and one of the oldest tented camps in Kenya this site was where the colonial Governor and his visitors used to come to hunt in the earlier part of the 1900s. Governor's boasts a prime location high up on the banks of the Mara River and a stone's throw from the game-rich Musiara Swamp. Read more?
The largest and least exclusive of the Governor's collection, this permanent tented camp operates a smoothly run operation with scheduled activities. For a tented camp, it is a little on the large side but preferable to staying in a hotel - you can still feel as though you are out in the bush enjoying life under canvas.
The down-side of being in the Musiara area is that it is almost impossible to enjoy wildlife viewing without an onslaught of other vehicles in the high season. As soon as a stationery vehicle is spotted, a dozen others will materialise from the surrounding plains and descend on the unsuspecting lion or cheetah, vying for the best camera angle. This treatment is mainly reserved for the big cats and it can be a very sickening experience. While every guide is trying to ensure a great wildlife experience for his guests, the more sensitive guest might prefer to be located a little further from the action and enjoy the less hectic experience.
Location - Masai Mara Reserve
The Masai Mara is one of the best known wildlife areas in Africa. Lying between the Loita hills to the east, the Ololoolo escarpment to the west and The Serengeti in Tanzania to the south , it's an area of iconic East African scenery; wide open plains interlaced with fertile rivers, framed under massive skies.
