Kitich Camp

Accommodation - beautifully simple camp with 6 tents
Price Guide - $400 - 480 pppn

Kitich Camp is a beautiful small forest camp within the Mathews Range of northern Kenya, in a lush valley of indigenous trees and cycads. The camp sits in a wonderful location overlooking the seasonal Ngeng River and has recently been taken over by Stephano & Liz Cheli who have just completed a subtle renovation that seems to have cleverly retained the original character of the place, whilst smartening up where needed. The accomodation comprises just six large twin tents, in refreshingly simple & traditional safari style, each with their own alfresco style bathrooms en suite and great views into the forest from their private verandahs.

There is a large but cosy lounge overlooking the main forest glade, which often sports wildlife during the day but can nowadays be floodlit at night, making for a pretty exclusive forest lodge experience with its combination of blazing open fire and sheepskin covered furniture.

Kitich is all about game watching on foot, so walking, rather than driving is the focus and it is a real thrill to stalk within metres of these forest animals and observe them without the protection and noise of a vehicle. Here you can let go of your inhibitions, swim in the natural pool sin the river and enjoy the birdlife, picnics in the bush and a laidback day tailored to suit your needs. Kitich very much suits those that want to avoid the popular spots and enjoy getting out on foot.

Location - Matthews Range

A stunning range of hills & mountains to the north of Laikipia at the base of Kenya's NFD (Northern Frontier District). The Matthews rise to over 2300m with a network of valleys and ridges, thick with stands of cedar, many topped off with dramatic craggy peaks. The whole area lies in sharp contrast to the dry bush country all around it. Jump to page?
