Another area of Kenya's Coast that seems to have assumed its own distinct identity is the area from Mombasa north to Malindi. Along with Watamu, Malindi has long been a mecca for travellers from all over Europe (Italy in particular). Read more?
Watamu remains a popular haunt for upcountry Kenyans, many of whom have established holiday houses around these areas. The same could be said of Kilifi, a sleepy village on the road south to Mombasa, except that in Kilifi they never went home, but instead remained to create one big retirement village.
