The central Serengeti, is an area of wide long grass plains framed by hills and river courses fringed, as in the Seronera valley, with yellow barked acacia trees. As you drive into the Serengeti from the south east you can see the progression from the short grass plains typical of the Ndutu area, through medium grass plains around Naabi hill to the longer grasses in this area. The change of grassland brings a change in the balance of species, with many more Hartebeest and Topi seen in these areas than further south.

The migration comes through the central Serengeti on the way north and west from the southern plains in June and July. The herds spread out across a large area.

The Rivers in the central Serengeti are the focus for some excellent game viewing, drawing in numerous animals to drink as the dry season progresses.
