Before you go to Tanzania you should be aware of the medical precautions you'll need to take. You should talk to your doctor about which shots and courses you personally need to take, but here are the basics:

Boosters Advised:

hepatitis A;
typhoid;
diphtheria;
yellow fever.

Vaccines sometimes advised:

tuberculosis;
meningococcal meningitis;
hepatitis B;
poliomyelitis;
rabies;
diphtheria.
Yellow fever certificate required if over 1 year old and entering from an infected area.

Malaria

Malaria is something which you'll need to take seriously also. There are various different prophylaxes that you can consider, but perhaps most important is avoiding being bitten in the first place, particularly in the hours of darkness when the female anopheles mosquito is most prevalent. Take long sleeved shirts and trousers or skirts, mosquito repellent and make sure you sleep under mosquito nets or in mosquito proof rooms.

An interesting development in malaria protection is the increasing number of homeopathic treatments becoming available. One such alternative is Demal200 which the producers, Blue Turtle Remedial Sciences, describe as a "highly effective homeopathic alternative malaria treatment which is gaining rapid acceptance worldwide as a malaria prophylactic which is suitable for pregnant/nursing mothers, children and long term use without side effects".

Please seek your doctor's advice.
