Gibbs Crater Ngorongoro Farm Manyara

Gibbs Farm is a working farm a short distance from Karatu in the Ngorongoro Crater and Highlands. Set right at the edge of the forest reserve just below the rim of the Ngorongoro crater, it is a short drive from Lake Manyara National Park and from here you can be on the Crater floor in an hour or so.

Gibbs is one of the longest established farms in the area, this is place where managers and staff alike take an enormous pride in the excellent food and service and as a result they have a well-deserved reputation for quality. The accommodation at Gibbs is simple but comfortable with wood burning stoves in the rooms and ensuite bathrooms with plenty of hot running water. There are a number of small sitting rooms and verandas as well as plenty of space to sit around under the shade of some beautiful indigenous trees, so there is always a private spot to sit away from other people.

Gibbs is an ideal place to stay for a night either en route between Tarangire National Park, Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater or as a place from which to visit Manyara or Ngorongoro. Whilst here you can do anything from walking in the forest reserve below the crater rim, where there is some great birdlife and at least signs of buffalo and elephant, to (if the urge takes you) having a go at milking the farm's cattle. Gibbs have a pretty much access-all-areas philosophy, so if you are interested there'll be someone who'll be happy to show you around; you can take tours of the coffee farm and the extensive vegetable gardens or just sit and take a break from the pace of your safari.

Trips to Lake Eyasi can be arranged from Gibbs Farm and there are also some great walks up and around some of the nearby mountains like Oldeani.
