Diving Dhows Matemwe Beach Dive

At Matemwe you'll find some of the best diving on Zanzibar - we learned to dive here and have been spoiled forever. There is immediate access to Mnemba atoll, using one of the hotels local style fishing dhows, adapted as a dive boat. The reefs around the island are home to myriad marine creatures - dolphins and turtles are seen often, whale sharks are resident at certain times of year and when we were last here Humpback whales had been making an appearance.

For those looking for a peaceful stay on the beach with some excellent diving, and an overall ecosensitive approach, Matemwe is amongst the best of its kind. However, if you are looking for airconditioning and waterskiing there are other places, which will suit you better. Speedboats and noisy watersports are not welcome so the pace is slow but wonderfully relaxing. As well as diving and snorkelling you can paddle within the reef on kayaks and the white sandy beach is perfect for lazy afternoons, reading, hunting for shells or just watching the fishermen returning in their dhows.
