Right at the northern tip of Zanzibar, Ras Nungwi is a beach resort that offers a wide range of watersports to a high standard, comfortable rooms and beautiful white sandy beach. It's a long way from Stone Town and the airport - an hour and a half drive through Zanzibari villages and endless coconuts, but once you get there you don't really need to go anywhere else.

Ras Nungwi has 32 rooms of varying styles, most of which have views over the Indian Ocean. All rooms are comfortable and well appointed. There are around 6 that overlook the beach directly, while the rest extend back into the grounds. Each room has a Zanzibari style bed with mosquito netting, spacious bathroom and a verandah. The more deluxe rooms have air conditioning. The bar and dining room are set high up with views over the pool to the ocean and there are a number of private areas where you can read, play games or work your way through the extensive list of cocktails. Food here is good and the management and staff maintain a thoroughly professional level of service so the result is an intimate and well run resort.

Perhaps the best thing about Ras Nungwi is the wide range of watersports available here. Equipment is of a high standard throughout - new Cressi regulators, wet suits and STAB jackets in the dive centre, a good range of windsurfing boards and sails (including a sinker for those who really know what they're doing). Deep sea fishing, Water-skiing and kayaking are all on offer. The dive centre offers full PADI courses, including a large number of the specialities, night dives and breathtaking dives off Mnemba atoll, and on the Leven Banks. For those who get tired of beach life, trips to Stone Town, to the Jazani Forest and Spice Tours can be organised.

The diving in Zanzibar is very good with some exceptionally good reefs in and around the various locations. The best location for the serious divers and deep divers is out on the Pemba Reefs. If you are into this, be sure to have a look at the Pemba reef descriptions. These reefs are awesome and there is a large variety to choose from.
The diving around Zanzibar, particularly Mnemba Island is exceptional, with some good wreck dives in the Stone Town area. Perhaps think about at least 1 or 2 dives in Stone Town and a 5 dive package out at your resort. Nungwi is the one of the most popular places for diving on the island of Zanzibar. Although there are only 3 major reefs, most dive shops arrange diving out to Mnemba if you get tired of the local reefs.
