The tents in these camps are traditional walk-in canvas tents with room for a couple of camp beds and bedside tables. Imagine the sort of safari camp that Ernest Hemmingway would have used and that's essentially what these camps are like. In front of the tent is a shady verandah area with a couple of safari chairs and wash stands which are filled with hot water in the early morning when you're woken. There are also a couple of tables where you'll find your piping hot coffee and tea when you get up. Loos and showers are traditional safari loos and showers. They are set just behind the tents in stand alone canvas covers. The loo is a short drop (basically a wooden seat over a hole in the ground) and showers are bucket showers, which is what it sounds like; a canvas bucket with a shower head attachment - straight forward, but surprisingly effective. There is a light dining tent with canvas sides that are rolled down when it rains or if there's strong wind. It has proper tables, chairs and linens with melaware plates to minimise bulk and weight. There is a bar with sodas, beers and wines and spirits (you let us know which spirits you like and we'll make sure they're there) as well as ice for as long into the safari as possible. The food is to a very high standard, wholesome and abundant, incorporating fresh vegetables and fruits. Like many of the really good camps, these probably aren't for every body. However, it's just worth saying that these camps are a million miles from camping as most people would think of it and amount to more than the sum of their parts. The luxury is in the freedom they give you to get well off the beaten track, the great food and drink and the superb way in which you are looked after by the crew.
