Getting to Lake Manyara

Manyara has to be one of the easiest parks to get to. If you're going to Manyara, it'll most likely be as part of a safari to Serengeti National Park and/or the Ngorongoro Crater amd highlands or Tarangire National Park, so you'll probably be starting you're safari in Arusha.

Manyara by road

- We generally recommend our clients to drive from Arusha to Manyara. It's a short drive of around 2 hours and the road, which has recently been tarmaced, is in good condition. The drive is through some beautiful country under the shadow of the 15,000 ft Mt Meru, past the dormant volcanic hills Monduli, Burka, and Lossimingor and up to the foot of the dramatic 2500 ft escarpment of the rift valley at Lake Manyara itself.

On the way you'll get a bit of a feel for Tanzania outside the parks; pickup trucks with so many people in that it makes those guiness world records where they managed to get 10 people into a landrover look pathetic. Here they'll fit 23 and there'll still be room for 8 goats.

Manyara by air

- It's also very easy. From Arusha it's a half hour flight and there are numerous connecting flights to other parks
