Loliondo is the Serengeti with fewer regulations; walking safaris, night drives and first class game. It's a large part of the Serengeti ecosystem and visited by few tourists, despite the fact that for much of the year it has game to rival the main parkThe Loliondo area is not a park in its own right, but a significant part of the Greater Serengeti Ecosystem. However, in our opinion it's worth treating as a separate park because the range of safari activities on offer here is significantly greater than those within the Serengeti National Park boundaries. There are also times of year, like December to May, when the migration hits this area, when the game in Loliondo is at least as good as the Serengeti. For much of the year, you'll find that we recommend that you divide your stay in the Serengeti between one location in the park and one location in Loliondo, staying at camps like Nomad's Loliondo Safari camp. The intention here is that you get to see the wildebeest migration and also to experience the wilder side of this stunning area; walking safaris, meeting the Maasai to whom this area is home and taking the occasional night drive.location - Loliondo begins just south of the Kenyan border at Ololosokwan on the northeastern boundary of the Serengeti, and wraps around between the eastern border of the Serengeti and the foot of the Ngorongoro Crater and Highlands to Piyaya and the Gol Mountains in the south. The north eastern area is contiguous with Lobo, with the same hills and ridges, rising to over 7000ft, dominating close to the park gate at Klein's . Here one is slightly more in amongst the hills and valleys than in the park. There are belts of thick acacia woodland, river lines with rich riverine forest, and as you move further east, rolling, partially wooded hills with numerous kopjes. In the south towards Gol and Piyaya you emerge into much more open country with vast plains framed by mountains. There are a number of deep narrow gorges including Olkarien, home to hundreds of nesting Ruppells Griffon Vultures and the rare Lammergeyers. The Selai Plains run all the way to the edge of the Great Rift Valley at Lake Natron.
