Mahale has two seasons, a dry season from June to October and a rainy season from November to May. Annual rainfall is around 1600 mm with temperatures varying from 18 degrees C to 32 degrees C.

The camp in Mahale is closed in November (more in response to a traditional lull in visitors than the weather) and in April and May. Chimp viewing is good at all times of year, but possibly at it's best during the rainy season.
