by air by far the easiest way of getting there. It's a short flight of around 50 minutes from Dar es Salaam and there are daily flights. If you come with BA to Dar es Salaam you can pretty much be in the Selous for breakfast. There are regular onward connections to other parks and flying times are roughly as follows:

Ruaha about 1 ½ hours
Katavi about 3 hours
Mahale about 4 hours
Arusha (for the Serengeti etc) around 2 hours.

by road - Dont

by rail - the Tazara railway, built by the Chinese during Julius Nyerere's time runs right through the northern Selous on it's way to Zambia. These days there is a private train operated by the Foxes of Ruaha which runs backwards and forwards between Mikumu and Dar es Salaam via the Selous. It's not as simple as flying, but then this is more than simply a means of travel. Contrary to what you might beleive, things dont always run on rails.
