Like the rest of Northern Tanzania, Tarangire has three seasons - a dry season and two rainy seasons. Or at least that's the theory as in recent years weather all over Tanzania has been quite unpredictable. The dry season runs from June to October, the short rains come in November and the long rains begin in March ending in late May. If you are going principally with a view to seeing large mammals, then the best time to visit is the dry season, from July onwards (the grass can be fairly long until then which makes seeing some of the animals difficult). If you are serious about birds then the wet season in Tarangire is well worth visiting.

Minimum temperatures are around 15 degrees Centigrade in July and the hottest part of the year is January and February when temperature can be in the high 30s.
