When - When to go on safari
The best time to go on safari differs from country to country, and even from park to park. However, in simple terms the time when it’s easiest to see the animals is when they’re not too spread out and there isn’t too much vegetation to obstruct your view. Broadly speaking this is between June and October – the dry season across most of Sub-Saharan Africa.
However, we've found that in most cases the reality is more subtle than this black and white view might suggest. Many places, most notably the Serengeti Southern Plains, are at their best once things have greened up. Many other parks are strikingly different in the green season, with comparably different animal and bird behaviour.
Of course much depends on your interests and your priorities. But, unless your objective is simply to see as many animals as possible (in which case you should head to the Serengeti North between June and October), our advice, having lived in many parks in Africa for years, would be to question the conventional wisdom on seasonality.
