Nomad's Northern Serengeti seasonal camp is perfectly located for when the wildebeest head towards Kenya's Maasai Mara, having already run the gauntlet of the Grumeti River in the western corridor. Read more?

This involves them tangling with the crocs of the Serengeti's own portion of the Mara River, a world away from life on the Kenya side of the international border. Having said that, it's not quite that straight forward.  The migration heads north as the dry season progresses, so from mid / late July through to early November, there are huge concentrations of animals in an area that spans the Maasai Mara in Kenya and the far northern section of the Serengeti National Park.  This area has until recently been out of reach of most permanent safari camps in the Serengeti, however there are now one or two options springing up in this region and they are very well worth considering, at almost any time of year.

Nomad's Northern Serengeti Camp locates in either the north western or north eastern Serengeti as conditions dictate, close to the Mara or Bologonja rivers respectively. It's in these areas that the action is likely to be at its best as the wildebeest cross backwards and forwards between Kenya and Tanzania in response to local rain showers, the resulting fresh grass (and only they know what else).

This luxury mobile safari camp caters for up to 16 guests and moves seasonally around the Serengeti ecosystem shadowing the wildebeest herds as best it can, with one of Nomad Tanzania's excellent private vehicle and safari guides as standard.

This means you have full flexibility in planning your safari activities with your guide to suit yourselves. As well as providing first class food in camp, Nomad supply lavish picnics to be taken on longer game drives, so you can choose to stay out all day on some occasions and return to camp for a lazy lunch and siesta on others.

The crew of almost 16 Tanzanians who run the operation are friendly and efficient and look after your every need down to the smallest detail. In cold months you'll even find a hot water bottle in your bed when you turn in.

Location - Serengeti and Surrounding Areas

The Serengeti is the best known safari destination in the world with good reason. The proliferation of animal life here simply defies belief and in the company of a good guide, this can be like stepping into a wildlife documentary.  We'd advocate building your safari in northern Tanzania around the greater Serengeti, but you do need to be aware that being in the right place at the right time is everything in this neck of the woods. It's worth understanding how the Serengeti works.
