Nomad's Western Corridor Seasonal Camp is the best place to catch the wildebeest migration in the Western Serengeti. This small, exclusive tented camp sets up in the Western Corridor in the months of June and July (although exact timings depend on the weather that year). This is the time when the migration comes off the southern plains and heads through the central and western Serengeti on it's way north. Read more?

The Grumeti River flows through the western corridor and it's this, and the immense crocodiles that it contains, that present a formidable barrier to the herds.  Even if the river is fairly low the animals are not safe.  Drawn to the river in search of water, they run a substantial risk of finding a crocodile in their drink.  Crocs and wildebeest aside, the western corridor is an interesting area and one that contains good game and bird life year round.

The safari camp caters for only 12 people at a time and you'll have a private vehicle and safari guide as standard throughout your stay. This luxury mobile safari camp moves seasonally around the Serengeti ecosystem shadowing the Serengeti wildebeest migration. Serengeti Safari Camp caters for up to eight people at a time with one of Nomad Tanzania's excellent private vehicle and safari guides as standard.

The camp not only offers one of the best chances of finding the wildebeest migration away from the crowds, but is also superbly comfortable with first class food. It's also one of the best ways to access to some remote and little visited areas of the Serengeti ecosystem that are well out of reach of the permanent safari lodges.

While the camp is shared by a maximum of 12 guests at one time, each group, whether you're a couple or a larger group, have a private vehicle and guide throughout the safari. This means you have full flexibility in planning your safari activities with your guide to suit yourselves. Nomad supply lavish picnics to be taken on all-day game drives, so you can choose to stay out all day some times, and return to camp for a lazy lunch and siesta on others.

The small crew of 4 - 6 Tanzanians who run the operation are friendly and efficient and look after your every need down to the smallest detail. In cold months you'll even find a hot water bottle in your bed when you turn in.

Also worth mentioning that camps and game drives in this area can suffer from occasional tsetse issues. This varies hugely and in our opinion is definitely not a reason to miss out either the area or the camp, but we think it's helpful to flag up the issue and do ask us for any latest updates if you're concerned.

Location - Serengeti and Surrounding Areas

The Serengeti is the best known safari destination in the world with good reason. The proliferation of animal life here simply defies belief and in the company of a good guide, this can be like stepping into a wildlife documentary.  We'd advocate building your safari in northern Tanzania around the greater Serengeti, but you do need to be aware that being in the right place at the right time is everything in this neck of the woods. It's worth understanding how the Serengeti works.
