Sasakwa Lodge is located in a commanding position at the heart of a unique private concession in the Serengeti. It's exquisitely designed, stuffed with beautiful things and characterised by service and standards that are, like the cost of staying here, reassuringly high. Read more?
However, while Sasakwa offers knock-out style and service and access to extremely good game viewing (not to mention a breathtaking list of things to keep you busy when you've had enough of the animals) one can't help wondering whether the level of experience on offer here is as good as you can get in your own private camp. But perhaps we're missing the point or being too traditionalist; this is somewhere with immense style and a considerable wow factor, so even if it's not a particularly East African experience (no swahili is to be spoken infront of guests for example) what you will get here is a first class hotel experience in a totally unique context.
As we've frequently argued, many of the best experiences are almost defined by the fact that they wont suit everybody. So perhaps this all amounts to proof of Sasakwa's cutting edge status as one of Africa's best hotels. It's either that or an illustration that while money can buy you anything - including large chunks of the Tanzanian wilderness - authenticity remains darned illusive.
Sasakwa Lodge sits on the top of is situated on the top of Sasakwa Hill, with awe-inspiring views over the Serengeti plains. The lodge is the epitome of an English manor home and provides the ulitimate indulgence in luxury. There are 7 individual palatial cottages, with their own private manicured gardens. Each cottage is beautifully finished from the decor to the furnishings, with polished wood flooring, sumptuous sleigh beds, ensuite bathroom, shower room and dressing room and a sitting room - all of which is enclosed in ceiling to floor windows providing unobsured, far reaching views of the surrounding reserve. So, if you ever reach the unlikely point where you have to leave the confines of your room, then you will find twice the amount of space to breathe in the main lodge, with a TV room, a fabulous library, billiards room, a garden room and dining and drawing rooms - all exquisitely appointed with parquet flooring, fine antiques, chrystal chandaliers and only the best silverware and china served at every meal - every bit reminiscent of the early 1920's colonial house.
Further to all this, Sasakwa Lodge can occupy you with tennis, archery, yoga and swimming in your own private heated pool - so plenty to do if you feel you would rather stay 'at home' for a day or two.
Location - Serengeti and Surrounding Areas
The Serengeti is the best known safari destination in the world with good reason. The proliferation of animal life here simply defies belief and in the company of a good guide, this can be like stepping into a wildlife documentary. We'd advocate building your safari in northern Tanzania around the greater Serengeti, but you do need to be aware that being in the right place at the right time is everything in this neck of the woods. It's worth understanding how the Serengeti works. Jump to page?
