Matemwe Retreat

Experience - Private suites overlooking the sea. plunge pools and spa
Price Guide - $430 - 525 pppn

Matemwe Retreat is a high octane version of Matemwe Bungalows, which we already think is pretty perfect. Situated just north of the main lodge, with just 3 fabulous private villas, its whole raison d'etre is to spoil your socks off. Read more?

The villas are well seperated and, as well as the standard stuff, like your own cocktail bar, vast bathtubs overlooking the Indian Ocean, each one has a private roof terrace with its own plunge pool and sun and shade decks as well as its own garden and .... small private area of beach right infront.

For a few days this little spot can become the centre of your universe and, with the spa and beauty treatments brought to your own roof terrace and your private butler happy to serve any or all meals in one of your secluded corners, there's really no need to wander outside your own private domain unless you particularly want to. Having said that, there's plenty to persuade you whether it be the two swimming pools of the main lodge where mere mortals roam - or perhaps to join others for the occasional dinner in the main restaurant giving you the perfect excuse to invite them back for drinks on your verandah and make them feel furiously inadequate.

There are also of course plenty of beach and water activities to lure you off your pedestal, including diving off the Mnemba Atoll right opposite the lodge itself. Whatever your fancy it should be pretty easy to persuade yourselves that Matemwe Retreat deserves to feature on your must do list, and soon.

Location - Zanzibar

Zanzibar along with nearby Pemba Island lies just off the coast of Tanzania and is a heady mix of tropical island life and historic Swahili culture that has beckoned travellers for centuries. During our years of living and working in Tanzania, we often took time out here, and have wound our way through Zanzibar's crumbling streets and padded along the miles of soft white beaches working out how to make the most of this fabulous island.
