Kapani is one of the oldest lodges in the Luangwa, started by Norman Carr who pioneered walking safaris in this area. Kapani is just outside the national park but overlooks the Luangwa river with a huge deck where most of the camps activities take place. Read more?

The lodge was built in 1986 and consists of 8 standard suites and 2 lagoon houses. The brick chalets have thatched roofs and are semi detached in pairs, therefore you may feel slightly deprived of privacy, however they are all elegantly decorated and very comfortable.    There is a large swimming pool at the lodge which is ideal for families and children.

A night or two at Kapani at the beginning of the trip is worth thinking about.  The game around Kapani and the main entrance to the Luangwa National Park is very good and habituated to vehicles.  It can be quite frantic and busy in this area and you would want to get out to the peace and quiet of Norman Carrs fabulous bushcamps pretty quick.

The general atmosphere of the Norman Carr Safaris camps is lovely and relaxed. Everything works well and the staff are great with many of the scouts having been with Norman Carr in the old days. The guides were all superb and very interactive with their walks and particularly with children.

Norman Carrs Bushcamps are Luwi, Nsolo, Kakuli and Mchenja.

Location - South Luangwa

The Luangwa Valley is probably Zambia's best known wildlife area. As well as having very good all-round game, Luangwa is somewhere that has gained a well deserved reputation for walking safaris, though there is a great deal more to do above and beyond. Jump to page?
