The Luangwa Safari House is just mind blowing. When we arrived, there were giraffe, puku, baboons and an elephant in the garden which we had to wait to leave before going into the house. Read more?
The house is totally open to the most spectacular view of a flood plain with a game viewing walk way and deck out into it. The house is wonderfully light and airy with huge rooms and each bedroom and bathroom has a slightly different theme.
The kitchen at the back is built like a termite mount with just the roof peering out and the kitchen underground – not that guests have anything to do with the kitchen except eat the most delicious, fresh home grown food that is produced from it.
You have your own staff and guide, Jacob, for the house and can use the pontoon in the rains or cross the river in the dry season to get into the park, but quite frankly you hardly need to leave the house to see the game. You can just relax on the deck or the plunge pool with Africa playing out around you.
For those who can afford it and want to travel with a group of friends or family, this is a must and combined with Chongwe River House in the Lower Zambezi, you could not go wrong.
Location - South Luangwa
The Luangwa Valley is probably Zambia's best known wildlife area. As well as having very good all-round game, Luangwa is somewhere that has gained a well deserved reputation for walking safaris, though there is a great deal more to do above and beyond. Jump to page?
