Lake Naivasha camps - Malewa Ranch House

Malewa Ranch House

The Malewa Ranch House lies within a private reserve on the floor of the Great Rift Valley between Lake Naivasha and the small town of Gilgil. Owned by Chris and Christine Campbell-Clause, who have been working on regenerating and conserving the area for wildlife against the onslaught of subsistence farming, Malewa is a quiet, tranquil place. Once the family home, the house provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere for families or groups who would prefer the freedom and flexibility of a private house. The house has five bedrooms, sharing three bathrooms and a large verandah which is where a great deal of time is spent socialising or relaxing. The house enjoys all activities available at the small Malewa River Lodge, so whilst the grown-ups are relaxing, the children can look forward to fun and active days. Although wildlife is increasing, game is not the main reason to come to Malewa, but the simple pleasure of walking unguided along the river to look for birds, or amongst zebra and antelope on the open plains, makes it a worthwhile place to stop off. This is particularly true for families, who can also take advantage of the activities on offer. These include rock-climbing and abseiling, river rafting and trout fishing as well as mountain biking and horse riding. There are qualified instructors available and so parents can relax whilst the young are entertained in safety. The house has it's own set of very helpful staff and a great cook who will whip up fresh and tasty dishes from local ingredients.
