Masai Mara camps - Offbeat Mara Camp
Offbeat Mara Camp
Offbeat Mara Camp started its life as a base for horse-riding safaris and it's location outside of the park chosen so that a wide variety of activities could be offered while still being able to enjoy the famous wildlife experience that is the Mara ecosystem.
The focus here is very much on the vehicle safaris. Being on the fringes of the Olare Orok River, the habitat surrounding camp is prime for Mara game, and sightings of lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo are commonplace.
This part of the Conservancy has the lowest tourist densities of the greater Mara ecosystem, so you still get the privilege of quality game viewing that is synonymous with the Mara, but with the intimacy of it being just your group and the bush.
Other activities are on offer in the form of cultural visits, scenic flight or hot-air balloon rides and bush breakfasts and picnics, but unfortunately walking safaris are not a feature here, which is such a shame as they put an entirely different slant on game viewing.
Co-owners, Tristan & Cindy Vorspruy still use the camp as a base for their riding safaris. The camp is discreetly located in an area of thick bush, allowing a high degree of privacy for each traditional-style safari tent. The central lounge and dining tent accommodates comfortable sofas and a large table, around which everyone gathers for meals.
The tents themselves are classic in style, and you get the standard en-suite bathroom with wash basins, hot bucket showers and flush loos. The camp sleeps up to 12 guests in 3 double and 3 twin tents.
Offbeat seem to have struck a good balance with their camps and they are consistently well located, comfortably and stylishly furnished with a high standard of guiding, certainly a great choice if you want a more polished rather then rustic feel to your stay.
Incl. FB, drinks, game drives, walks and cultural visits, bush breakfasts and lunches, laundry and airstrip transfers. Excl. Champagne
