Andasibe-Mantadia camps - Vakona Forest Lodge
Vakona Forest Lodge
Located a few kilometres from the village of Moramanga, Vakona Forest Lodge sits on a hillside sloping down to a lake on the edge of Andasibe National Park, providing easy access to wildlife-filled forests.
The main octagonal building with its relaxed sitting area and restaurant is warmed by a central fireplace and there are huge windows overlooking the lake. On warm days meals, or drinks from the well-stocked bar, can be enjoyed on terrace. Nearby there’s a small swimming pool.
Dotted among the carefully tended tropical gardens are 28 rooms in 10 bungalows, including some big enough for a family of four - built and decorated in a Madagascan style. Each of them has its own terrace, so you can continue to enjoy your natural surroundings between forays into the parks. The rooms are fairly simple but comfortable enough and the beds are hung with mosquito nets.
Just a 20 minute walk from the lodge the Lemur Island with its habituated lemurs. The island is touristy but you do get the chance to see lemurs at very close quarters and it’s a highlight of the stay for many.
