Marrakech camps - Dar Zemora
Situated in the heart of the Palmeraie, the Dar Zemora is an oasis of tranquillity on the edge of the hustle and bustle of Marrakech, but still near enough to make frequent visits to the Medina and Place Djemma El Fna.
Created as a ‘Country House Hotel’ and a retreat from the world. Four luxurious and spacious suites with their own fireplaces and private terraces, and three elegant rooms are all individually designed. Traditional finishes have been used throughout the hotel such as tadalkt walls, bejmat floors, hand-painted zouak ceilings and doors and moucharabieh woodwork.
What makes this small hotel special, however, is the many and beautifully appointed reception rooms. Space to be social or not as the mood dictates.
From the traditional gatehouse a driveway of olive trees leads you up to the house. After entering the turreted hall you find yourself in an enormous circular domed reception room. Two large sitting rooms lead off this room, both with comfortable armchairs and sofas, and one with a large welcoming fire in winter. The dining room has a terrace overlooking the fish pond for quiet lantern lit dinners. For those who really want to retreat there is a cosy library with fireplace and an intricate hand-painted ceiling. The last and most impressive reception room is the airy Fan Room, perfectly named after its shape. It is an inside/outside room where one can relax during the day or take an aperitif in the evening.
Next to the large and free flowing swimming pool are cushioned teak sun-beds with umbrellas, sun hats and towels and a pool house. The garden, filled with orange and lemon trees and of course palms, roses, oleander and bourganvillea, has been created by a designer who has paid special attention to providing quiet areas and little pathways perfect for a quiet stroll or a game of croquet on the side lawn.
There is a separate treatment room for massages and Hamman so guests can experience the traditional “bathhouseÇ?? without leaving the grounds.
Ahmina delights guests with her 6 course tasting dinners on four nights a week, while Jamilla cooks a four course Traditional Moroccan dinner on the other three nights but with an eye to the European palate. The best of both worlds! A recent addition is the kitchen herb and vegetable garden.
If guests can tear themselves away, Dar Zemora can arrange trips to the Mountains, hot air ballooning, quad biking, horse riding, tennis, golf or a guide for sightseeing.
The Pavillion Suite is a house in the gardens with two double bedrooms both with fireplaces and own terraces over looking private pool. Another large terrace is off the living room for outside dining beside the water feature. This suite can be let for either one couple, two couples travelling together or for a family. Obviously, parents should be made aware that the swimming pools are unmanned and unfenced.
All suites and rooms have personally controlled air conditioning, marble baths (except the Pavillion Suite), bath robes, and safe. I-pod speakers, mobile DVD player and ipods on request. Air conditioning and central heating throughout. The swimming pool is heated by solar panels in cooler months.
