Etosha National Park camps - Mushara Lodge
Mushara Lodge is part of the Mushara Collection which comprises four camps and lodges on the outskirts of the Etosha National Park, to the east. The Mushara Collection does not have its own conservancy and so game drives are done within Etosha (which is around a 14km drive away). Each camp offers a slightly different experience.
Mushara Lodge is medium-sized, comfortable lodge within 10km of the Park Gate. The stone and thatch chalets are dotted around a garden where there is also a pool, so you can enjoy some relaxation between trips into Etosha Park. A great feature is the family of warthogs that diligently take it upon themselves to keep the lawns trimmed and make for hours of entertaining viewing from the verandah of your room.
The rooms are well spaced and although a little dated at present, there are plans for an upgrade early in 2011. There is a great family house complete with a large lounge and even a playground fro the kids. The main lounge, bar and dining area are done in the traditional dark woods of the African safari lodge but this too is due to receive a bit of a facelift. The lodge is particularly noted for the high standard of food.
Mushara Lodge is a reasonable choice if you intend to spend your time in the Park. It works well for those on self-drive safaris or for families as the rates are for dinner, bed and breakfast. If you are looking for a slightly more upmarket experience, consider Mushara Outpost or Onguma Tented Camp. For a bit more of a “bush" destination, we’d suggest Onguma Treetops.
