Arusha camps - Rivertrees Lodge
Rivertrees has long been one of our favourites as the beginning point for many of our safaris in Northern Tanzania. It has the friendly relaxed atmosphere of someone's home (because part of it still is) yet manages to provide good service and simple home cooked food to a high standard.
Being in Usa River, it's within easy reach of both Kilimanjaro and Arusha airports (20 and 40 minutes respectively) and it has attractive grounds with a beautiful stretch of riverline. On a clear day thre are wonderful views of Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru which is no more than a few miles away.
Rivertrees is very low key, comfortable without being luxurious and has some appealing idiosyncrasies. Inside there are old photos, trophies and bits and pieces which illustrate Martina, the owner's long and fascinating involvement with this part of East Africa. Rivertrees is also well placed for accessing Arusha National Park and Mt Meru, both of which are all too often sadly overlooked, but a great way to spend a day or so in beautiful country.
On some evenings the Rivertrees' bar turns into the social hub of the area, and folk here are an interesting and well behaved bunch so this does nothing but add to the appeal of the place.
