Lake Natron camps - Sampu Camp
Sampu Camp is a relatively new tented lodge that was donor-funded to help inject a new revenue-stream into this community. The site chosen for the property is beautiful; a shady acacia knoll on the edge of the Nguruman Escarpment with a natural spring bubbling over smooth stones around the base and off into the plains. This is also the natural migration route for elephant to move down from the misty Loita Hills to the riverine forest of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Sadly, the architects have failed to draw any inspiration from this lovely spot and the result is an unimaginative camp with traditional style safari tents under a thatched roof with a built-on en-suite bathroom. There is also a central mess, kitchen and small pool. On the up-side; the views from each tent are lovely and it is a great place to enjoy the simple pleasures of the bush. The tents are equipped with comfortable beds and the Maasai staff do their best to look after their guests, although they are very new to this business and don't have much guidance. The camp is primarily taken on a self-catering basis but there are plans to bring in a cook in the near future.Self-catering, bed only.
