Tarangire National Park camps - Nomad’s Kuro Tarangire
Nomad’s Kuro Tarangire
Kuro Tarangire is set amid a grove of Acacia and Kigelia trees right on the banks of the Tarangire River - often a dry, sandy course snaking through this quiet, central area of the park. The river serves as a natural wildlife corridor and the area sees the rhythmic movement of animals as they traverse the park from the hills in the west to the swamps on the eastern side, and between the north and the south along the river line.
Kuro is a seasonal camp, open from June to early November, and has been created with a light footprint to harmonise with the natural habitat; at the end of each season the camp is packed up leaving behind only the trees and birds and animals.
The camp has six light and stylish safari tents which are kitted with comfortable beds, en-suite bucket shower and flushing eco-toilet with solar lighting, and all have views overlooking the African bush. One of these is a family tent which has two en-suite bedrooms and an adjoining sitting area. Meals are communal with the other guests, taken under the cool grass thatch of the open-sided lounge and dining area which are furnished with hides and canvas and brought to life with a touch of colourful and tactile textiles.
Rising in the cool of the early morning you walk straight out of camp to discover evidence of the night's activities along the course of the Tarangire River. Professional guides teach you about the interaction between all the creatures, as well as about the flora and fauna. In the afternoon, you are taken out on a game drive in open 4x4 vehicles, and walking safaris and night drives are also availalbe.
Tarangire is second only to the Serengeti in its concentration of wildlife and is well known for big herds of buffalo, elephant that stand picturesquely beneath the spreading branches of Baobabs and prides of lazy lion sprawled in the shade of acacia scrub. Kuro Tarangire is a fabulous launch pad for a safari into Northern Tanzania; it’s relatively easy to get to yet it has an authentic rawness of a true safari destination.
