Lower Zambezi National Park camps - Chiawa Camp
There can't be many places where you'll need to use your binoculars the wrong way round to see the elephants. Along with buffalo and hippo, the camp's regular visitors include a number of elephant who have become such frequent guests that they are known by name. It seems as though the wildlife of the Lower Zambezi merely tolerate the presence of people in their midst and carry on life regardless. It's hard to argue, and it certainly provides unique mealtime entertainment.
Chiawa is a luxury camp which offers superb wildlife experiences. It is plumb in the middle of one of Zambia's best pieces of game real-estate and all the resources are made available for you to enjoy the diversity literally on your doorstep. Game and night drives are the best ways to encounter the big game and make for excellent photo opportunities. Walks, sunset cruises on the Zambezi, canoeing and fishing for tiger or bream are also among the destractions.
The guides at Chiawa have earned a reputation for excellence and the staff as a whole are professional and friendly. The camp was one of the first in this area and the Cumings family who still own it have a long family history here. From the exciting game drives to floating lunches on the pontoon, lazy indulgent baths and huge beds, this is an all-round luxury wildlife experience.
There is a great deal to do around the Lower Zambezi so it's wise to allow for at least 3-4 nights here. Chiawa combines well with the South Luanga National Park and Livingstone or Kafue for those seeking a more remote experience. For slightly more low-key Lower Zam experiences, have a look at Chongwe River Camp or Ol Mondoro.
Includes full board accommodation, scheduled activities, soft drinks, beer, house wines and local spirits, park fees where applicable. Does not include special activities, premium wines, champagne and spirits, gratuities, items of a personal nature.
