Hwange National Park camps - Somalisa

Somalisa

Somalisa is the sister camp to Kanga Bush Camp in Mana Pools.  Along similar style lines, Somalisa is a bush camp without the bling and you get a definite sense of the emphasis being on what is around the camp rather than what's in it.  That isn't to say that service and comfort are over-looked...indeed you can rest assured that you won't be lacking for anything.

Six tents located along the vlei-line are linked to the main lounge and dining area by elephant paths.  The surrounding bush is a mixture of forested thickets and open grassland that turns from a deep lush green during the rains to a dusty gold in the dry winter months.

Wildlife throughout Hwange is prolific but tends to concentrate on a number of pans and waterholes where permanent water is kept flowing by the Friends of Hwange trust.  Activities here will therefore revolve variously around exploring these hot-spots in game vehicles, enjoying the rather splendid sunsets with a cold beer in hand, and going walkies in the company of an informative professional guide.

We recommend 3-4 days to get the most out of a stay in Hwange.  Somalisa is ideal for those that like simple pleasures and proximity to the bush.  The camp combines well with Kanga in Mana Pools and Camp Amalinda in Matobo and a range of places in Victoria Falls.
