Ruaha balloon safari in the wilds of Tanzania’s largest park

If you look back on safaris of old with adoration and you pine for the wonderful simplicity in one of Africa's really special wild places, then look no further.

Ruaha is one the best places in Africa for proper walking safaris supported by simple fly-camps over several days so if this whets your appetite then Ruaha could be the place for your next adventure.

Day 1

Arrive in to Ruaha’s Msembe Airstrip by light aircraft from Arusha or Dar Es Salaam, drive through the park to the small but brilliant Nomad Kigelia Camp, your base for the first two nights and an ideal spot to start exploring this wonderfully varied wilderness.

Day 2

Gather in the pre-dawn chill to witness the inflation of the balloon, before launching at dawn with the rising sun.

Take off from the flood plain of the great Ruaha River to drift at Baobab height, looking down into eagles’ nests or to rise to over 1000 ft above the ground getting a unique perspective of this amazing park. The flight, which lasts for around an hour, but seems like minutes is like riding a magic carpet – silent and utterly captivating. A brand-new experience for Ruaha.

Day 3 to 7

Head north-east to the wild and remote Kichaka Camp, one of Tanzania’s most exciting camps, owner-operated with real passion and zeal, the emphasis here is all about getting out in foot and irrefutably offers one of the finest walking safaris in Africa.

Walking in Ruaha

Ruaha is also one of the most stunning, varied and photogenic parks in Tanzania so you can expect to see a wide range of species from lion, leopard and cheetah, buffalo and elephant and there is even a good chance of wild dog. Imagine all of that against the breathtaking back drop of Ruaha National Park.

Let the adventure begin. Enquire now.
