Nosy Komba

Nosy Komba is a beautiful island in the Nosy Be archipelago, a short speed boat transfer off the northwest coast of Madagascar. The inactive volcano rises dramatically from the ocean, clothed in primal forest and plantations of vanilla and pepper. There are no roads and no vehicles - villages are reached by dusty lanes and the largest settlement, Ampangorina, business minded local women sell embroidered tablecloths and colourful fabrics to the boats of visitors making day trips from Nosy Be to get up close to the habituated black lemur in the community park. Nosy Komba means Island of Makis and true to its name is home to many lemurs, in particular the Macaco.

The highest point on Nosy Komba is 621m above sea level, and a hiking trail leads to the sacred (fady) peak Antaninaomby. Elsewhere on the little island are quiet sandy coves and the calm warm waters are ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
