Quirimbas Archipelago camps - Medjumbe Private Island
Medjumbe Private Island
Medjumbe is a little smudge of a sand island in the turquoise blue of the Indian Ocean off the north coast of Mozambique. Part of the Quirimbas Archipelago, the island is a stunning example of a perfect tropical island and is a great spot to come if you love the sea and all the water sports that go with it.
The lodge itself is a bit of a mix - shaggy thatched roofs and painted wood mixed with a slightly middle-eastern influence. The thirteen rooms lie a little close together but are spacious and cool, each with a private plunge pool. This is no Robinson Crusoe place, though, and all are kitted out with air-con, mini-bar and satellite TV which may be a little incongruous with the remote “castawayÇ?? location.
There are mixed reports about food and service here which is a bit of a shame. However, it’s not dire and for action-loving people who want a real escape and are not too bothered about gourmet cuisine and super-efficient staff, you’re likely to enjoy your time here.
