You will most likely only spend one night in Kigali on your way to or from the gorillas. Although it is rather parochial it is interesting to see a city rise from the ashes.
Founded by the Germans in 1907, Rwanda's attractive capital, Kigali, is spread across several hills and valleys. The city centre is built on one hill and the government and administrative quarter on another.
Kigali is bustling and colourful, neat, efficient and the one of the safest cities in Africa.
In recent years there has been huge rehabilitation work done to restore the city to it’s former glory. Mushrooming up, are many high rise buildings to accommodate the new and burgeoning businesses.
There are some excellent, sophisticated restaurants and cafes. This is a booming city bursting with excitement looking to the future and putting the horrendous past behind them.
