Satpura National Park accommodation - Forsyth Lodge
The ideal place for nature lovers, Forsyth's is an environmentally friendly lodge set within 44 acres of rehabilitated jungle on the edge of Satpura National Park. This was the first lodge to be constructed near the park and the owners have engaged with the local authorities and community to offer a complete safari experience at Satpura.
The wildlife experience at Forsyth’s begins in the surrounding estate which has its own resident chital, jungle cats and mongoose as well as birds. You can spend hours watching these from a tree top machan (hide) near a water hole and even spend the night up here if you choose.
Back on terra-firma the 12 air-conditioned cottages are cosily and colourfully furnished and have their own private veranda while the main lodge houses the dining area on the ground floor and a lounge bar and library with terrace upstairs overlooking the jungle. All the buildings are made primarily of mud brick and wood and are inspired by local village designs. There is also a swimming pool.
The naturalists here are extremely enthusiastic and will share their knowledge with you on safaris, whether this is on foot on a walking safari or elephant back, by jeep, or even canoe on the Denwa River. A small boat takes you across the lake to the park every morning and sustained by a picnic with fabulous views of the Pachmarhi plateau and Sonbhadra valley you can stay out for the whole day, or return to the lodge at lunch time if you prefer your creature comforts. Night drives along forest roads can be arranged and bear, wolf, wild dog and leopard have occasionally been spotted.
The naturalists are also great with children who’ll learn loads about natural history and if really interested they can follow the lodge’s own fun junior ranger course around the morning and evening activities inside the park.
