Assam accommodation - Mancotta Chang Bungalow
Mancotta Chang Bungalow
With Assam’s irrefutable association with tea, what better than to stay in a 150 year old bungalow built for one of the original estate planters? With just four beautifully restored rooms Mancotta Chang Bungalow near Dibrugarh is a wonderfully relaxing place to stay after a tour of north east India, a heritage home where the kind and gentle staff will treat you as an honoured guest.
Although the en-suite bathroom plumbing could do with some updating the bungalow's spacious rooms feature sal wood floors and period furniture and are spotlessly clean. Chang in the local language means “raised on stilts” and the design served to both to keep the house cool by allowing fresh air to blow underneath and to keep water and animals out! Today the raised verandas afford views over the tea gardens while you sit with a refreshing cuppa or dine on freshly cooked meals including local delicacies. The owners will organise walks through the estate, impart the story of tea and for the more active visits to villages, can arrange kayaking on the river and horse riding.
