Ladakh accommodation - Shakti Ladakh Village Houses

Shakti Ladakh Village Houses

Shakti’s village houses are like no other home in Ladakh, bringing a whole new level of simple sophistication to this remote region while offering an authentic experience of life in the India Himalaya.

Each of the seven traditional houses is located in different villages on the high plateau, beautifully renovated by Ladakhi craftsmen while at the same time modern facilities such attached bathrooms have been added. Built of sun-baked mud bricks, poplar and willow and plastered with local white clay the houses are uncluttered and simple, but surprisingly comfortable and homely, replete with fine linen, deep mattresses, soft pillows, hot-water bottles, a feast of a dinner, a warming log fire and a glass of chilled wine or beer. There’s a living room with Ladakhi cushion seating and coffee tables, kitchen/dining room and a spacious terrace for kicking back and soaking up the views.

Each of the houses can accommodate up to six, but if your party is smaller it doesn’t matter – what makes a stay here really special is that the whole house is exclusively yours. It's perfect for a family holiday or a trip away with friends.

The lovely staff comes from the local community and meals are prepared by a Shakti chef who may give you a cooking lesson one evening in a copper pot lined kitchen. While breakfast and lunch, whether at the house or a picnic under apple trees in an orchard or at the edge of a field looking out over the Indus, are western orientated, the candle-lit dinners are very much an Indian affair. For a perfect end to the day, head up to the roof terrace for an incredible star-littered sky like you’ve never seen before.

The village houses are perfect bases for exploring Ladakh with a charming private guide, visiting remote monasteries, across the high plateau to pristine lakes or trekking to Stok Kangri (6153m) or simply chilling and enjoying the view.

Exclusive experience includes private accommodation in village houses on fully inclusive basis, all activities (rafting, walking, trekking, culture, relaxing, star gazing, mountain gazing, gompas), private guide, chef, driver and vehicle, porters. Minimum 6 night stay in May, June and September, minumum 7 night stay in July and August.
