Cochin accommodation - Brunton Boatyard
With its simple white washed walls and low tiled roof it’s hard to believe that Brunton Boatyard dates only from 1999 not 1799. Built in the architectural style of the Portuguese and early Dutch settlers around a large central lawn, this 26 room hotel blends perfectly into historical Fort Cochin. Sitting right on the waterfront every room enjoys views of vessels of every shape and size coming and going from the harbour.
In keeping with the period style, the wooden four poster beds are so high that a little stool is provided to help you climb up to them. Concessions to modern needs are made by the provision of air-conditioning in guest rooms but huge punkahs (fans) hanging from the arched verandas add to the historical illusion. The hotel is well-placed for exploring Cochin but if you become weary there’s a large swimming pool to enjoy or the option to watch the watery world going by from the Terrace Grill where fresh seafood is served in the evening.
