Mysore accommodation - Gitanjali
Sitting at the foot of the Chamundi Hills on the outskirts of Mysore, Gitanjali Farm is home of the Achaiah family. They have thrown open their doors as a homestay to offer warmth and hospitality to guests. The main house is a brick farmhouse set in pretty gardens with distant views to the Lalitha Mahal, a palace built in the 1920’s in the style of London’s St Paul’s cathedral.
Comfortable guest accommodation is offered in four simply furnished garden rooms with ensuite shower room linked by a long veranda and separate from the main house. Your hosts Dalu, Muthu and their daughter Yamuna are an educated Kodava family from Karnataka’s Coorg (Kodagu) region known for its coffee, timber and spices as well as martial people. The family will be pleased to talk to you about the traditions and culture of their martial Kodava community, as well as share the secrets of family recipes during cooking lessons.
Delicious home-cooked food featuring distinctive cuisine from Coorg as well as Western dishes is served either in the family dining room or outside in the gardens after a pre-dinner drink and interesting conversation with your hosts. The well-tended gardens are a lovely place to sit and relax after visiting the city.
