Explore ancient royal palaces and grand fortresses, vast deserts and colourful festivals. Dive into bustling markets and relax in sleepy, rural villages. Just a short drive from Delhi, Rajasthan contains many of India’s most iconic sights and most memorable experiences. This is the natural starting point for any first-time visitor to India, but has enough energy and excitement to inspire even seasoned travellers.
Where should I go?
Compiling a must-see list in Rajasthan is not easy – there are just so many fantastic things to see and do. You could visit traditional must-see sights including the magical Taj Mahal at Agra, the holy city of Varanasi and the majestic Amber fort at Jaipur. Or follow the road less travelled and find hidden palaces and mystical off-the-beaten-track temples.
Wherever you visit you’ll find fortified legacies of the Rajputs, the warriors who give the state its name. Best of all you can actually stay in some of their splendid palaces – live like a king in Jodhpur’s Umaid Bhawan or live with one at Deogarh Mahal.
After the chaos of city life we highly recommend exploring the villages of rural Rajasthan to experience a traditional way of life. Add in the National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries and there’s enough to fill months or years. But, from our experience, we’d advise against trying to do too much.
With the right balance of action and relaxation, you can really get to know your destination – without getting overwhelmed by it. We’ll help you plan your trip, provide a car and driver and arrange as much (or little) guiding as you want so that you can travel at your own pace. Just talk to us to and we’ll start compiling the perfect itinerary for you.
