Africa: Wildebeest Migration & Vic Falls

From the North of Kenya via Zanzibar to Zambia's Luangwa and Vic Falls

What we recommended - and why

Start-off on Laikipia in Kenya - walking, tracking wild-dog, swimming in waterfalls, visitting Samburu warriors and fly-camping. An action-packed, game and experience-rich few days to blow off the cobwebs. Then down to the Mara to see the migration - staying on a conservancy for maximum freedom.

After a week on safari head to the beack in Zanzibar for some serious R&R and watersport. Here you can individually choose exactly how much or how little you would like to do. For those that wish there is superb diving and deep-sea sport fishing, kite-surfing or site-seeing, for those that don't there is beach, pool, sun and loungers.

The next stop is the Lower Zambezi NP in Zambia where it is possible to have a phenomoal safari without embarking on a jeep - walk, canoe boat and try your hands pulling in the legendary Tigerfish, probably the fiercest flighting fresh water fish in the world. Big-game abounds, notably Elephant, Hippo, Buffalo, Lion and Leopard - an extrodinary number of which are seen regularly from camp.

The final destination is the Victoria Falls; here as in Zanzibar there are lots of opportunity for those that need to get an adrenalin-fix while not having to drag everyone off bridges or down gorges. Stay on a private island away from the maddness of what is the Falls and dip-in as and when you like.

The whole trip worked incredibly well, we never felt that we were too long in one place but nor were we endlessly travelling. Zanzibar was a great break in the middle from the intensity of safari-ing and to unwind after a busy year - but with still plenty to do (diving, fishing, kite-surfing) for those of us that wanted to keep active. Each safari experience was totally different from the other.”
