Kenya Short and Sweet

Meru with a private mobile safari. Walking, riding and enjoying the freedom of Laikipia

We only have a week available to do something really worthwhile. We've done a number of safaris before in southern Africa – this year we only had a short amount of time but desperately needed a safari fix.”

What we suggested and why

Many people write Kenya off based on stories of minibuses surrounding hapless animals. While these places exist, they are only a small part of the story. Kenya offers some of the wildest expanses of Africa on the continent, as well as some of the most sensational scenery - from the Chyulu Hills in the South to the dramatic landscapes of the Laikipia Plateau, or small gems like Shaba or Meru in the north.

Here you wont see another tourist, let alone a minibus. With some intelligence applied, even places like the Mara are outstanding for wildlife viewing.

Kenya also has easy access from Europe, offers exceptional value, seasoned guides and exudes a natural exuberance. The solution: a day in Lewa to re-familiarise and decompress, then three days private camping in Meru with a wonderful guide, followed by 4 days at Laikipa with its incredible freedom and range of things to do.

We had never considered Kenya before and it worked really well – taking a road transfer from Meru to Laikipa you get a feeling of how the country works and spending time in such different areas made the trip feel much longer than a week away.”
