Finding Old India in Rajasthan

A festival and forts, villages and the Taj Mahal in heritage style, Rajasthan

I'm interested in the Sufi festival in Nagaur, India. We like character hotels with a bit of luxury. We'd love to explore some more of Rajasthan and see the Taj Mahal but don't know what's feasible. ”

What we recommended and why

After checking availability of accommodation and flights we recommended that after a quick stop in Delhi the clients fly to Rajasthan and stay at Narlai for an insight into village life while staying in a former favourite hunting lodge of the Jodhpur royal family.

Next to Jodhpur, where the blue painted buildings of the old town and traditional market retain the atmosphere of old India and is perfect for exploring on foot from a hotel based at the foot of the fort.

The music festival at Nagaur was just a short hop away and we were able to secure a tent at the temporary camp erected at the fort for the occasion.

We suggested spending a couple of nights in Jaipur at Samode Haveli, the first independent heritage hotel in Rajasthan, still offering a great experience and oozing with character, for guided forays into the city and an evening walk in the bazaar.

We planned the trip so that the clients were staying at Amar Vilas on 14 February for romantic uninterrupted views of the Taj Mahal.

The trip ended with a night in Delhi and time for some last minute shopping before flying home
