Luxury wildlife and desert, Rajasthan

Ranthambhore to Jawai and Jaisalmer in luxury tented camps

We’d like to see something of Rajasthan. We’re wildlife enthusiasts and would love to get out into the desert too. We like to travel in comfort.”

What we recommended and why

We started with an initial conversation to run through some options and answer questions. The clients liked the idea of tented camps with a high degree of comfort combined with stylish hotels.

We suggested using the excellent railway and internal flight networks to cover some of the longer distances and a comfortable private car with experienced driver to reach rural areas.

We recommended they looked at travelling in early March to maximise chances of spotting wildlife in the dry season. Air-conditioning, plenty of refreshing drinks and cool towels would be help mitigate the heat.

Ranthambhore was the obvious place to look for tiger -  the deciduous forests and man-made lakes were once private royal hunting grounds and ancient fort ruins provide an atmospheric back drop to sightings of its famous tiger.

From here we suggested staying in an old royal summer residence, still lived in by their descendants, where lakes and gardens are a little oasis in Rajasthan’s dry lands. Great for birdwatching and an insight into rural life with a very personal touch.

We recommended that next the clients visit Jawai where a landscape of rocky outcrops, caves and scrub is the perfect habitat for leopard, shared in harmony with Rabari shepherds and their flocks before continuing to a serene colonial-style camp amid pristine dunes a short drive from the magical desert fort at Jaisalmer.

The trip finished in Delhi before returning home.
