UNAPOLOGETIC LUXURY - BOTSWANA'S MOST ICONIC CAMPS HAVE PATENTLY TAKEN THE OLD MAXIM 'ANY FOOL CAN BE UNCOMFORTABLE' TO HEART

VAST TRACTS OF PRISTINE WILDERNESS, HUGE HERDS OF FREE-ROAMING WILDLIFE IN PRIVATE CONCESSIONS THAT GUARANTEE AN INCREDIBLY EXCLUSIVE SAFARI EXPERIENCE ALL CONVERGE IN BOTSWANA

'The Best' of anything is generally subjective, one man's meat being another man's poison. That said, if you want to combine knock-out wildlife sightings in genuinely pristine wilderness and enjoy an eye-popping level of comfort and attention to detail - then Botswana is extremely hard to beat. What's not to like? True, this level of luxury and exclusivity does not come cheap but you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear and it's the natural raw ingredients that Botswana is blessed that is the main reason that it see's itself as the 'ultimate' safari destination, not all the opulent paraphenalia that's been built around it.

DAYS 1 - 4

ARRIVAL IN THE MAKGADIKGADI SALT PANS

Day one finds you in the iconic Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, the remains of a great lake which once covered most of northern Botswana. You will find no animals on the pans but this is an extraordinary and unforgettable landscape experience with the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

DAYS 1 - 4

JACK'S CAMP

Jack's Camp located in the Kalahari Desert on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans - a classic desert camp and a great spot to gain an insight into the area’s geology, archaeology and anthropology.

Surely one of the remotest locations in the world for a museum but Jack's Camp is actually a registered museum and contains a fascinating collection of archeological finds.

DAYS 1 - 4

MEERKATS OF THE MAKGADIKGADI

Get up close and personal with the bands of meerkats that inhabit the the Makgadikgadi.

DAYS 4 - 7

EXPLORE THE VAST KALAHARI PLAINS

Thanks to the diversity of habitats, healthy game populations move through the area and are present to a greater or lesser degree all year long. Short grasses attract plains game such as springbok, gemsbok and wildebeest converge in their hundreds and thousands here to feed, which attracts predators such as lion and cheetah.

DAYS 4 - 7

KALAHARI PLAINS CAMP

A whopping area in the middle of Botswana: vast, remote and completely wild. The plains are made up of grassland and ancient dry river beds, not what springs to mind when you think of vast desert landscapes. Standing under the stars at night, you could easily believe yourself to be alone with the universe, until the distant call of a Kalahari lion tells you otherwise.

DAYS 7 - 10

ECO-FRIENDLY PELO CAMP

Pelo Camp (meaning heart) is situated in the middle of a heart shaped island in the Okavango Delta. This is a completely eco-friendly camp that is ideal for the adventurous traveller as an ideal location for classic mokoro safaris in the wetlands of the Okavango Delta.

DAYS 7 - 10

SPACIOUS AND LUXURIOUS

Each guest tent in camp have en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor shower and private decks with views out onto the delta. A beautiful spot to wake up every morning to the sun rising and sounds of the Delta coming to life.

DAYS 7 - 10

FLOAT DOWN THE OKAVANGO DELTA

An immense, waterlogged oasis alive with elephants and birdlife, adrift in the middle of Kalahari sands. The real magic of the Delta lies in its water, trickling through from far away highlands, and spreading across the channels and floodplains.

The waterways of the delta are best discovered by traditional mokoro slowly drifting on top of crystal clear waters.

DAYS 10 - 13

DUBA PLAINS

Duba Plains is an intimate camp in one of the most remote locations in the Okavango. A beautiful camp surrounded by expansive seasonally flooded plains and shaded by tall ebony, fig and mangosteen trees.

DAYS 10 - 13

DUBA PLAINS

Spacious tents with stunning interior and magnificent views out onto the plains.

DAYS 10 - 13

DUBA PLAINS

Game viewing in the dry season at Duba Plains is a dramatic experience as the vast open grasslands are often cut off from the mainland by deep waterways, thus creating the perfect hunting ground. Watch and wait for the action to unfold.

DAYS 10 - 13

EVENINGS IN CAMP

Warm hazy evenings in camp are a lovely time to share stories of the days events on safari. Duba Plains Camp has a wonderful communal area in the main lodge overlooking the floodplains.

A NOTE FROM ROD

INSPIRATION

An argument that Botswana offers the finest safari experience that there is. The best that money can buy as they say. The wildlife here is irrefutably excellent, but Kenya, & Tanzania could both make a claim as 'Africa's greatest wildlife showcase'. The difference lies in how the wildlife is experienced and it is a fundamental one. More than twenty years ago Botswana set itself on a course of low density tourism - expedited by high entrance and concession fees. And so if the way that you see the game is important as the game you see then most parts of Botswana offered unrivalled exclusivity.

THE PERFECT TREK!

"Vanessa from Natural High Safaris provided a very responsive, personal and bespoke service which in turn led to a perfect trip, that was without fault! From our pack mules all the way up to our guide, Oulaid, it was outstanding. We were guided through the most beautiful and remote countryside to camp sites with the most awesome views. Oulaid had really thought about our route and request to be off the beaten track. It was a delight that we did not see any tourist for the whole trek. Our team were professional, hospitable and friendly, delivery a very well prepared and comfortable camp each evening. The camp chef did an amazing job bearing in mind the remoteness of our location, conjuring up very tasty and varied meals each day. If I could book another trip tomorrow I would.Next year beckons!Well done all!!"

I will definitely plan an expedition with this company again.

"They promptly provided an itinerary in response to our desires. Feedback on the plan was well received. Closer to the time we were connected with our guides to further hone our trip. A group of 5 women, arriving from various destinations, camping and lodges in the desert with extraordinary guides. Yes, the cliche works here...a trip of a lifetime."
