The main wildlife season is between June and October. Typically, game-viewing improves as the season wears on and the bush dries out, and animals concentrate along the rivers for food and water. October is the hottest month of the year.
Between November and May, many camps in the South Luangwa close as the rain renders roads impassable. One or two stay open and this can be a great time to visit for birds, trees, dramatic skies and exploring by boat. The North Luangwa is closed during the rains.
